M’s Music – U2

U2 delivered one of their most intimate New York appearances ever when they played the Apollo Theater in Harlem.

The show, performed in front of 1,500 invited guests, featured the Sun Ra Arkestra for four songs during an encore. You can see videos and the full set list below.

The 18-song show opened with “I Will Follow” and included the tour debuts of “Out of Control”, “Angel of Harlem”, “When Love Comes to Town”, “Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out Of” and “Every Breaking Wave”. The audience included Jon Bon Jovi, Steven Van Zandt and Harry Belafonte.

Singer Bono dedicated “Stuck in a Moment” to the late chef and writer Anthony Bourdain, calling him “a great storyteller who had stories he couldn’t tell us.” “It’s been a funny, not funny few years,” he said. “We lost a lot of inspiring, useful people. And gained a few useless people. It’s hard to lose a friend, to lose a mate. This band has been through that.” He noted that he’d originally written “Stuck in a Moment” in memory of INXS singer Michael Hutchence, who died in 1997.

After the encore featuring the Sun Ra Arkestra – who’d flown in that morning from Australia, Bono said – U2 returned to their usual lineup to complete the concert with three more songs.

M’s music – U2

În 1976, un anunţ pus de unul dintre elevi la avizierul liceului Mount Temple Comprehensive School din Dublin, Irlanda, avea să marcheze începutul unei noi ere în rock-ul international, Era U2 ! Larry Mullen Jr. a fost cel care i-a strâns laolaltă pe cei care aveau să scrie o pagină unică în istoria rock-ului. Larry Mullen Jr  , Bono , Adam Clayton şi The Edge aveau să plece într-o călătorie care avea să-i ducă pe culmile succesului.

Adoraţi, admiraţi şi respectaţi de o lume întreagă …

U2 sunt împreună de 30 de ani. Componenţa trupei a rămas aceeaşi . Ei sunt patru prieteni care şi-au stat alături, indiferent de greutăţile întâmpinate. Şi cel mai important, creativitatea lor a rămas intactă. De-a lungul anilor au produs o muzică extraordinară, întotdeauna în pas cu vremea şi evenimentele.

Unul din bunii săi prieteni, Guggi l-a numit Bono Vox (“voce bună” – latină) de la numele unui magazin de aparate auditive din Dublin. Mai târziu Paul s-a hotărât să păstreze doar numele de Bono. În onoarea lui, patronul magazinului a schimbat numele magazinului în Bona Vox.

De la primele gig-uri U2, s-a văzut că Bono era cel care comunica în permanenţă cu publicul. A luat chiar lecţii de prezenţă scenică, pentru a-şi mări impactul asupra publicului. Fie prin cuvinte, fie prin fel de fel de cascade, unele chiar periculoase. In 1983 in Los Angeles a trebuit să sară dintr-un balcon, direct în mulţime, culmea, pentru a scăpa de fanii care îl incolţiseră. S-a ales cu hainele sfâşiate dar cu o lecţie  învăţaţă.

Nu le-a fost teamă să se reinventeze, lucru care în timp le-a adus alături noi generaţii de fani. Folosind promovarea prin videoclipuri, turnee, colaborarea cu alţi muzicieni, cu dorinţa de a învăţa permanent, întotdeauna inventivi, au reuşit să se menţină în frunte.

Şi vor mai fi mult timp !
